Establishing and maintaining “forts” in the west was again part of the military existence in 19th century Wyoming territory to help travelers seeking new beginnings in that vast unexplored west.  The base of Laramie Peak west of present-day Wheatland, Wyoming, became the site of lumber cutting operations to provide lumber for its new fort eventually named Fort Laramie.  Here is the story of a commander in charge of several wagons carrying cut timber to the new fort.  His demise came after separating from this wagon train to hunt for game.  Documented distances contribute to various locations along the route and possible areas of the deaths of Lt. Levi Robinson and Corporal John Coleman.
